Departure:
If you go into your local comic shop on a regular basis to browse the shelves, chances are you have read a story by Brian Michael Bendis. Even if you are not an avid comics reader, many of his creations and story lines have ended up being used across the comics media platform in television shows like "Jessica Jones" and "Luke Cage" among others. Bendis has been a key architect in designing and building the Marvel universe for the last decade or so. Whether or not you are a fan of Bendis; there is no denying his talents. As a writer Bendis has worked on everything from solo titles to team books to some of the best and most well-received events that marvel has put out. Phrases like "the end of an era" are often overused but when you look at the track record of Bendis it is very fitting for his work at the publisher. Marvel comics will have some very big shoes to fill in the creator department.
Arrival:
However comics fans can rejoice in knowing that Bendis has inked an exclusive deal with DC comics. This means that fans will be treated to DC titles written by the long-time Marvel scribe. With such a wide range and variety of characters written under Bendis' pen at Marvel; it will be very interesting to see what DC titles DC decides to hand the writer the keys to.With the Rebirth initiative in full swing and some more than likely game changing events (looking at you Dark knights: Metal and Doomsday Clock) currently running at DC, it is the perfect time for Bendis to step in. Will we be seeing Bendis takeover one of the major solo titles? Possibly one of the big 3 in Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman? Will the publisher decide to let Bendis run wild on some of the many team books they are currently pumping out? Regardless if DC decides to put Bendis in the "architect" position like Marvel did (how could they not?) One thing is very clear: While Marvel may have lost Bendis to DC, the readers are the true victors in this one.
